MOA Getaway Tomah Wisconsin

October 4, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - October 6, 2019 @ 9:00 am

$99

Local riders will tell you this area is the “east Tennessee of the upper Midwest.” There are so many curves, twists, coulees and hollows you’d swear you are in West Virginia. And the roads… oh, the roads! Taking Hwy 108 north out of West Salem, we’ll ride our own little bit of a dragon, leading up to and through the Mindoro Cut. The Cut was hand dug through the soft sandstone, 75 feet deep and 25 feet wide. (You’re going to want to ride this road twice.)

For those who would prefer a relaxing ride to enjoy the autumn foliage and the character of this area, we invite you to join us for a ride through Cashton, Wisconsin. Take a beautiful ride back in time, and visit the shops and cheese factory. You might catch the scent of narrow-waisted bundles of hay, and hear the clop, clop, clop of horse-drawn buggies as they pass on the road.

You can visit the Cheese factory where 130,000 pounds of milk from 270 local Amish farmers is collected and processed daily. After sampling true Wisconsin cheeses made in the old world tradition, we could continue on to ride the narrow back roads, and may even stop at an Amish roadside stand for a fresh pie to take back to the hotel for a midnight snack.

Ready for a little off-road adventure? The route is primarily gravel roads & a few paved roads, through some of the scenic hills of Wisconsin. There may be some water crossings and a few farmer-roads, but this promises to be a fun day filled with quiet “roads-less-traveled.” Several experienced off-road riders will guide you and offer suggestions in the more challenging areas.

Even experienced adventure riders will enjoy the quiet serenity of this trail, and may be able to find a few places to get into trouble along the way if they want. Ride will be mapped out beforehand, and riders will receive a brief training session prior to the start. The autumn foliage should add to the enjoyment.

Don’t miss dinner on Friday night, when Wes Fleming, the MOA’s Digital Media Editor and host of the MOA’s podcasts, Chasing the Horizon and 200 Miles Before Breakfast, will sit down with motojournalism legend Peter Egan for a lively discussion, followed by a Q&A session.
